Let me start with my conclusion: while I support a good proportion of Javier Milei’s agenda, I think his temperament, his volatile behaviour, his ideological eclecticism and his desire to build a big tent will end up turning against the better parts of his nature and policies.
Javier Milei became the president of Argentina almost nine months ago, and since then has gained rockstar status. His three international speeches – one at the World Economic Forum, one at CPAC and one at the UN – had massive audiences. Even his interview with Tucker Carlson broke records of viewership on Twitter.
The man is different from anything that politics is used to. He lacks the traditional restraint of politicians and doesn’t hold his punches against the left. At the same time, he advocates for freedom of the press, of religion and mentions having been a tantric sex teacher. These factors – among many others – have cracked the skull of the media, with left-leaning outlets qualifying him as far right, and the right embracing him despite most of its members not fully supporting his ideas.
